Summer Reading

Dear Parents and Guardians:

“Today a reader; tomorrow a leader.”  In North Brunswick, we strive every day to support our students, helping them to reach their potential and become leaders equipped to do great things in our world.  Through reading, students are able to become those leaders!  However, too often in summer, students do not continue to read consistently, and it causes the “summer slide,” where students lose knowledge due to a lack of practice with literacy skills and strategies.  Participating in summer reading opportunities, along with increasing the likelihood of higher reading achievement, can result in improved reading skills, motivation, confidence, and enjoyment (Roman, Carran, & Fiore, 2010).  This summer,  we have one request of our Linwood School and North Brunswick Township Middle School students: READ!  After finishing a text, please record the title and author on your “ Shelfie .”  Please encourage your child to read as much as possible. No written work is associated with this reading.  The expectation is that students read and enjoy the texts this summer.   In September, students should come prepared to discuss their favorite text (or a few of their favorites) with their peers in their Language Arts class! MORE
